Never thought you’d see the day when a woman filling her head with seemingly mindless information like Rosie Perez in the White Men Can’t Jump could prove lucrative?  Well, life imitated art at the Kerasotes Showplace ICON movie theater last night.

Although one young woman named Katie didn’t win 14 grand on Jeopardy, she snagged a pair of tickets to the 7:00 p.m. showing of Broken City when given 30 seconds she named more Mark Wahlberg movies than her opponent. Two more pairs of movie passes were snapped up by a man and woman who also knew the names of Wahlberg’s wife and kids….

“Showbiz Shelly” emceeing the prize giveaway also consisting of B96 cups, t-shirts and other memorabilia effectively passed the time while fans awaited Wahlberg’s arrival to screen his latest movie, in which he portrays the disgraced cop turned private detective Billy Taggart.Broken City also stars Russell Crowe as the New York City mayor who hires Taggart to spy on his wife, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.
24-7 Mark Wahlberg_010Anticipation turned to pandemonium shortly after 6:30 p.m., as fans focused their attention through the picturesque window and onto the pavement one story below to observe a procession of black Escalades pulling up curbside.
24-7_004“It’s him—he’s here!” shrieked a good many females and males alike. The throng of fans, already packed tightly, now began to churn with excitement so that finding steady footing grew akin to tightrope walking.
“If we’re lucky,” said one fan clutching a DVD of Wahlberg’s summer blockbuster Ted, “he’ll sign autographs.” Flanked by a half-dozen bald, burly bodyguards helping him push through the crowd, Wahlberg wielded his Sharpie like Zorro. “Sign your cell phone?” he asked a woman for clarification. “Are you sure?” Yes, she swooned pressing her cheek to his for a quick photo beforehand, she was sure!

Marky Mark formerly of the “Funky Bunch” signed items from old ad posters of him sporting Calvin Klein underwear to a pair of red Everlast boxing gloves bearing his likeness from The Fighter.

24-7_003After Wahlberg reached a respite on the red carpet to pose for press with the movie’s director Allan Hughes, he continued signing paraphernalia as he made his way to the screening area to introduce the film.
Meanwhile, for a handful of diehard fans that didn’t have movie tickets, waiting outside in the cold to catch a final glimpse of Wahlberg reconvening with his ride was well worth their price of admission.
