The American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin

Christmas ended on a Tuesday this year…I was sad to see it go. We wait all season for that one magical day and then…Poof! It’s gone. But this year, I was able to extend my Christmas season into two more magical days at The American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin. Located only two short hours away from Chicago, The American Club is the perfect weekend getaway for families or couples who want to get away from it all and take in the beauty of Wisconsin. The American Club does a nice job with kid activities. For example, the children can make their own hot chocolate bar, go sledding and take a carriage ride.

It’s especially nice for parents! If you plan it right, you can tag team and check out the spa and golf activities available at the hotel as well. The Spa by the way, is one of the best I have ever been to in the States! I had no idea how beautiful or serene it would be. I had the massage and facial and it was so good, I forgot where I was a few times! That’s how much I needed it, I guess. The Kohler Golf Academy was a perfect place to sharpen our golf skills, or in my case, actually learn how to hit the ball correctly. The Shops at Woodlake is a shopping center just a short walk from the hotel and the restaurants are really delicious, too.

We went to an Italian restaurant called “Cucina” and would recommend the Lunch special. You can order 1/2 pasta, 1/2 soup, 1/2 salad and drink for only $15. The food was really good and the value was even better! We checked out two other restaurants called “Blackwolf Run” and the “Horse and Plow Pub”. I tasted my first cheese curds at the Horse and Plow… a must have while in Wisconsin. Blackwolf Run is a short and beautiful ride through the Kohler property and home to two world-renowned golf courses, River and Meadow Valleys. The wooden lodge stood out in the winter wonderfest of fresh snow and tall pine trees. The food was American cuisine. I had the Walleye ( one of my favorites) and scallops. There was a good selection for the kids to choose from and they loved the dessert which was “make your own smores”.

Let’s talk about the rooms for a minute. The beds were super comfortable and the shower and tubs….well let’s just say, I have never been so relaxed in a hotel bathroom in my entire life. The Kohler company specializes in bathrooms and it is evident in all of the rooms. So if for some reason you don’t have time for the spa while visiting, you can have your own spa in the comfort of your hotel room!

Overall, my experience at The American Club was spectacular and beyond my expectations. It was everything we hoped for when taking a few days away from our busy lives in Chicago. We relaxed, enjoyed our family time together and even made a snow man! The American Club is a 5 star hotel with impeccable service. I’m looking forward to going back and experiencing it in the summer. I heard that’s pretty amazing too!
