Theater Review: The Half-Brothers Mendelssohn
The Half-Brothers Mendelssohn
Strange Tree Theatre
Tweetable Review: Strange Tree’s The Half-Brothers Mendelssohn is one part Time Travel, one part Fringe Theatre but altogether recommended
As both an Original and a World Premiere comedy, The Half-Brothers Mendelssohn focuses on Theo Mendelssohn who believes he can change the past, alter the future, find true love and bring back the dead by building a working time machine to blast twenty years into the past and stop his mother from abandoning the family. But, by doing so Theo may also prevent his father’s second marriage and the birth of his doubly doomed half-brother, Nicholas, that is if Nicholas doesn’t get in the way.
There’s seems to be a stigma attached to certain types of genres. Romance is emotional over logical, Mystery involves murder and Horror well – blood and scares. So for The Half-Brothers Mendelssohn which combines Sci-Fi, Family Drama and Farce, the whole affair could have been geared solely toward fans of Dr. Who, but Strange Tree Theatre’s newest production instead serves up a completely fresh & theatrically fringe piece of entertainment thats very appreciated and anything but ordinary.
