49th Annual CIFF Hits Chicago

49th annual CIFF hits Chicago for another diverse year!

1

Every fall, Chicago plays host to annual Oktoberfest parties, falling leave to help usher the onset of Winter and the International Film Festival. CIFF – Chicago International Film Festival – has become renown for showing anticipated mainstream cinema prior to wide-release (Alexander Payne’s Nebraska & this season’s newest Coen Bros’ outing Inside Llewyn Davis) with  award-winning features that everyone will be talking come February (this year’s Cannes’ Winner Blue is the Warmest Color, alongside Steve McQueen/Michael Fassbender’s 12 Years of Slave). Most importantly however, CIFF offers viewers and film geeks alike a chance to catch local Chicago favorites like Pat Healy’s Cheap Thrills, Michael Shannon’s The Harvest and Amy Morton’s Bluebird on the same bill as presentations of films from more than 60 countries, making for a festival that is richly diverse in both selection and prominence.  While we could take up a whole column alone devoted to the more well-known titles showing on the screens at the AMC 21 River East –  Independence and Secrets is our thing, and the list below are our top choices from the 49th Annual CIFF Festival you shouldn’t pass up just because they aren’t the hottest names on the hit list – plus, who’s know if you will ever get to see some of these titles again….

The Chicago International Film Festival runs October 10 -24 & the complete list of films is at the Fest website: www.chicagofilmfestival.com.
