The Oscar Nominations

The brightly lit and cheery faces of Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone were on hand this morning to read off the names of this years’ Oscar nominees, of which the winners will be announced on Feb 24 at 7 PM EST/6 PM CST.

With Lincoln leading the nominations with 12 , followed by Life of Pi with 11 and 8 each for Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook, it appears the gap is widening among the Academy Voters – proving that either Voters are becoming more open to Independent and non-traditional films or the number of Voters are growing in terms of younger votes.  Surprises were also felt as the two critical favorites, Argo and Zero Dark Thirty got fewer nominations than expected, along with snubs from the likes of PT Anderson’s film The Master, and Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow, who were shut out of the best Director category.

One film that did surprisingly well with four nominations was the indie favorite Beasts of the Southern Wild. The film’s leading actress Quvenzhane Wallis, received a best actress nod, making her the youngest nominee ever (today she is 9 but at time of filming was 6). She will be competing against the oldest best actress nominee in Oscar history, Amour star Emmanuelle Riva, who is 85.

Without further trying adieu, here are the nominees:
